2005 Cases & Investigations

 

Grainger County - 12/2005 - Five horses dumped in a field 6 weeks prior. One limping, and one with a piece of wood through its mouth.

Roane County - 12/2005 - Pony in round pen standing in mud. Tarp at one end for makeshift shelter.

Carter County - 12/2005 - 3 horses have been in 10 acre field for years. Nothing to eat.

Sevier County - 12/2005 - Three horses in a small pen. No shelter, or access to water.

Scott County - 11/2005 - Lady was scammed by a local horse farm. Horse arrived and died 2 days later of "black leg".

Monroe County - 11/2005 - 1 stud colt hasn't been out of the barn in 18 months.

Scott County - 11/2005 - Local farm selling very skinny & malnourished horses. Standing in muck up to their knees.

Marshall County -11/2005 - Mustangs being sold at local auction house with the brands painted over.

Knox County - 9/2005 - 2 horses in bad shape. Keep getting out.

Monroe County - No food or water in a week.

Lewis County - 8/2005 - 2 mares and a foal being housed in a horse trailer. Stud tied to a tree.

Hamblen County - 8/2005 - Foal put out in pasture with a halter on. Horse is now a yearling and the halter is imbedded in its head.

Knox County - 8/2005 - Pony with no water or shelter.

Roane County - 8/2005 - 2 skinny horses.

Meigs County - 8/2005 - 6 horses on 1/2 acre. No shelter, sub-standard food. 2 have died recently, and most have rain rot.

Sevier County - 7/2005 - Donkey in need of foot care. Feet are curling up.

Scott County - 7/2005 - Local Horse dealers selling sick and thin horses.

Anderson County - 6/2005 - Horses and cows on dirt lot. Covered in flies, and one had mange. A donkey had a swollen foot as big as a baseball.

Jefferson County - 6/2005 - Horses with no access to water or food.

Roane County - 6/2005 - local animal rescue charged with cruelty to animals. Along with small animals there are goats, sheep and horses involved.

Hawkins County - 6/2005 - Another complaint in regards to a prior case regarding horses being stalled in neglectful living conditions. Lacking farrier care and grooming.

Cocke County - 6/2005 - Donkey left to roam with cattle for 1 - 1 /2 years with no attention. Walks really weird like he does not have all his leg.

North Carolina - 6/2005 -  Received a written complaint in regards to a badly run horse campground.

Cocke County - 6/2005 - 4 horses on a quarter acres. Only 2 five gallon buckets for water.

Sumner County - 6/2005 25 + Horses, most mustangs on less then an acre of land.

Blount County - 6/2005 - Horse in a pasture with his halter on too tight.

Rutherford County -6/2005 - Local horse rescue facing felony charges for theft and running a scam.

Hawkins County - 6/2005 - Arabian Breeder with management problems. Stalls not cared for and some horses not being fed. Some are a rack of bones.

Sumner County - 6/2005 - 20+ horses, many malnourished.

Jefferson County - 5/2005 - Dead horse in field that had been there for 24 hours.

Greene County - 5/2005 - New residence to the county asking for public donations to help care for "rescue" horses that they brought with them from another state..........(we feel this complaint was unjustified and filed in order to try and start a riff within the rescue community)

Knox County - 5/2005 - 7 horses on 2 acres. Coats in bad shape and malnourished.

Campbell County - 4/2005 - 2 young horses. Looked great when owner first got them 2 months prior. Now they have nothing to eat, bodies are sunk in and they are eating their manure.

Jefferson County - 4/2005 - Feet curled up and broke off. No food.

Jefferson County - 4/2005 - Horses with nothing to eat. Sometimes they get a black round bale of hay.

Sevier County - 3/2005 - Horse abandoned for 2 years. Horse is over weight and most likely foundered.

Knox County - 3/2005 - 1 horse in 4" of manure. Hoof rot, no food or water. Skinny.

Roane County - 3/2005 - 2 horses in very poor condition.

Marshall County - 3/2005- 15 horses on 6 1/2 acres. Colt died that was skin and bones. Others very weak and skinny.

Bradley/McMinn County - 3/2005 - Horse training facility in disgusting condition. Sick and thin horses.

Claiborne County - 3/2005 - 2 horses  living in a back yard. Lot is a mud pit, no shelter.

Rutherford County - 3/2005 - Multiple complaints in regards to a local person running a horse rescue operating under an out of state affiliation. Horses being brought in from out of state under a consignment contract and being sold and auctioned off. Owners of these horses not receiving their payments and "adopters" not getting the correct horses they "adopted".

Sevier County - 2/2005 - Riding stable using sick horses. Horses have no coggins.

Knox County -2/2005 - Daughter comes home and tells Mom that  a man down the road got thrown from his horse and he was kicking and whipping it with a stick. This is not the first time he has been seen beating on this horse.

Greene County - 1/2005 - Local breeder not caring for horses. Many lacking farrier and general attention.

Sevier County - 1/2005 - Elderly couple have two ponies living in a junk yard with a single strand of wire. Nothing to eat and losing weight fast.

Dickson County - 1/2005 - Son/daughter goes home for a visit and finds the horses they left in their fathers care in deplorable conditions.

Hamblen County - 1/2005 - Horse was put to pasture with a foal halter. The horse is now a yearling and the halter was imbedded in its head. Owner has left dead horses in the field for extended periods of time. Has many other animals in bad shape on the property. Kicker is this owner may be a veterinarian.

Rutherford County - 1/2005 - Area rescue states they are a 501c3 and to send money. They are not chartered with Tennessee and are not a legitimate non-profit organization. Log onto www.GuideStar.com before donating to any organization.


Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we try to help those who can not help themselves. Pray that our state laws will be changed to allow us the authority to pull a horse in need of help, without having to go through all the red tape. Pray that our local law enforcement will take our request seriously and try to intervene when needed. Please continue to help support us financially. A lot of man hours and gasoline go into checking out every case turned over to us to investigate. Your donations allow us to continue our fight against horse abuse & neglect.
